The Siena Ballroom, Tuesday, January 19, 9:00 am

President Barack Obama assumed the office of the Presidency on January 20, 2009, amid great expectations and considerable doubt as to how this relatively unknown, young Senator could handle the challenges and responsibilities of the office. Obama inherited a world marked by a global recession, a rising tide of terrorism, an America deeply engaged in two counter-insurgencies, and general despair about the future. Not an easy assignment, but the new Chief Executive’s stirring oratory summoned comparisons with a young John F. Kennedy, and hopes were both high and doubtful.

With a year under his belt, how has the President and his Administration handled the challenges and opportunities? This panel will look at Obama’s record from three perspectives: Chris Wicker, a lawyer and former Chair of the Washoe County Democratic Party, will assess the President’s political savvy and shortcomings; UNR Professor and frequent WSJ columnist Brad Schiller, and investor, professor and columnist Robert Barone, will examine his domestic and international economic record; and Ty Cobb, former Special Assistant to President Reagan, will analyze Obama’s foreign policy accomplishments. The panel will be chaired by Carina Black, head of the Northern Nevada International Center at UNR.

Please join us for this special session of the NSF that will be held at the Siena Hotel’s main ballroom. A full breakfast will be served (something new) along with an expanded program. Please RSVP (ACCEPTANCES ONLY) to this email or by calling 746-3222. There will be a $15 charge at the door for this program.
